We checked 1,536 local business websites. 28% aren't labeled for AI assistants.

When someone asks Google, Siri or ChatGPT “which beauty & med spas are open near me?”, the answer depends on what those tools can read about each business. So we looked at the public websites of 1,536 independent businesses across 10 US cities and checked one thing that matters a lot: are the basics (what the business is, where it is, when it's open) labeled in the structured format that Google and AI assistants read?

The short version: 426 of 1,536 sites (28%) don't label their business details that way. It varies a lot by type of business: beauty & med spas are the least labeled (42%), dentists the most (90% labeled). No business is named in this report.

Two basics most sites get right

Only 35 of the 1,536 sites loaded without a secure connection (browsers mark those “Not secure”), and only 18 weren't set up for phones. Most independent businesses have done the website basics. The gap is the newer layer: labeling details so software can read them.

Why the labels matter

A person can read “Open Tue–Sun, 8 to 2” anywhere on a page. Software reads most reliably from structured data (schema.org), the same format Google documents for local businesses. Clear labels make a business easier to describe correctly. They don't guarantee a recommendation or a ranking. They remove a reason to be skipped or described wrongly.
